📌 Why in News?
Most settlements develop around natural drainage channels. When such channels are narrowed, concretised, covered, blocked by construction or filled with waste, rainfall loses its natural route to larger water bodies.
The consequence is localised waterlogging. This is why desilting alone cannot solve urban flooding.
