๐ Why in News?
A durable post-2026 arrangement should contain periodic scientific review rather than a rigid 30-year freeze; climate-adjustment clauses; real-time data sharing; guaranteed environmental flow; drought emergency protocols; joint sediment studies; participation of affected Indian basin states in domestic consultations; fisheries and biodiversity provisions; and stronger flood forecasting.
Such a model would turn the Ganga agreement from a water-allocation treaty into a river-governance treaty.
